KOREAN FRIEND
We made our first Korean friend a couple weeks back. His name is Yung Jin, but we call him Jay. For the last couple of weeks we have hung out with him, we have became family. The protocol changes at this point, as well as speech. I now call him Hueng, which means older brother. Certain formal customs, especially at dinner time, are dropped. I can eat with my hands, feed him food like you would to your girlfriend, and holding hands is customary with men. I only held his hand one night, the sex came later. We met him at a billiards hall, he showed us a Korean version of pool. Our relationship blossomed when he locked us in the pool hall until six in the morning (drinking SoJu and having choppy English conversations). I am his first American friend, there are not a lot of whiteys around these parts.
